Colour
Colourless. The highest colour grade on the D–Z scale.
Colourless. Very close to D, with differences assessed under controlled grading conditions.
Colourless. The final grade in the colourless group.
Near-colourless. The first grade in this group, with subtle colour.
Near-colourless. Slightly more colour than G; its appearance also depends on the setting and light.
Near-colourless. A little more warmth, which may be easier to notice beside higher colour grades.
Near-colourless. The warmest grade in this group; compare individual stones to find your preference.

The GIA D–Z scale describes colour in white diamonds. This guide explores D–F (colourless) and G–J (near-colourless). Lighting, shape and setting also affect appearance.
Clarity
A skilled grader finds neither internal inclusions nor surface blemishes at 10× magnification.
No internal inclusions are detected at 10×; surface blemishes can remain.
Tiny inclusions are exceptionally difficult for a trained grader to detect at 10×.
Tiny inclusions remain very difficult to detect at 10×, though more apparent than in VVS1.
Minor inclusions are difficult to identify at 10×. Review each stone individually.
Minor inclusions can be easier to identify at 10× than in VS1.
Inclusions are readily identified at 10×. Their visibility without magnification varies between stones.
Inclusions are more readily identified at 10×. Ask Emma to help assess the individual stone’s appearance.
